Christian Claas ist Regisseur, Komponist und Konzeptentwickler an der Schnittstelle von Schauspiel, Musik- und Figurentheater. In seinen Arbeiten verbindet er szenisches Erz\u00e4hlen mit musikalischer Dramaturgie, Live-Performance und partizipativen Formaten. Sein Interesse gilt dabei besonders den \u00dcberg\u00e4ngen zwischen Theater, Konzert, H\u00f6rspiel und performativer Intervention.
Er studierte Theater- und Musikwissenschaft sowie Sozialpsychologie in Bochum und Wien. K\u00fcnstlerische und organisatorische Erfahrungen sammelte er unter anderem am Castillo Theatre in New York, am Meininger Staatstheater und bei den Bayreuther Festspielen.
Sein Repertoire umfasst filmische Live-Soundtracks, Schauspielmusik, Weihnachtsm\u00e4rchen mit Live-Band, singende Puppen in Sinfoniekonzerten sowie soziokulturelle H\u00f6rspielwerkst\u00e4tten. F\u00fcr das Figurentheater Chemnitz entwickelte er mit Wandertag im Weltraum ein interaktives Online-Theaterst\u00fcck f\u00fcr Schulen, das mit dem Publikumspreis des Wettbewerbs Kulturlichter \u2013 Deutscher Preis f\u00fcr Kulturelle Bildung ausgezeichnet wurde.
Als Regisseur und Projektleiter konzipierte Christian Claas au\u00dferdem mehrere partizipative Performance-Projekte zum Thema Upcycling von Material und Ideen. Eigene musikalische Theaterarbeiten sowie Kompositionen und Sounddesigns f\u00fcr Inszenierungen anderer waren und sind an zahlreichen B\u00fchnen zu erleben \u2013 darunter in Meiningen, Berlin, Dortmund, New York, Zwickau, Chemnitz, Leipzig, Bamberg, Dresden, Magdeburg, Erfurt, Dessau, Gera und Heidelberg.
Aktuell ist sein musikalisches Theater zu erleben am Staatstheater Meiningen mit \u201cDie K\u00f6nigin der Farben<\/a>\u201d, \u201cPu der B\u00e4r\u201d<\/a> und \u201cDie Hochhausprinzessin\u201d<\/a>, am Theater Waidspeicher (Erfurt) mit \u201cDer Drache\u201d<\/a>, am Theater Heidelberg mit \u201cKrabat\u201d<\/a>, am Theater Chemnitz mit \u201cAn der Arche um 8\u201d <\/a>und ab dem 24. Oktober 2026 mit \u201cWunderkinder (AT)\u201d. Ab dem 12. September 2026 am Theater Altenburg\/ Gera mit \u201cYvonne die Burgunderprinzessin<\/a>\u201d.\u00a0

<\/span>Christian Claas<\/span> is a German theatre director, composer, and creator of original performance works whose artistic practice is rooted in musical thinking. Rather than treating music as an accompaniment, he approaches rhythm, sound, movement, and visual composition as equal dramaturgical forces.
<\/span>Working across theatre, puppetry, concert performance, and participatory formats, Claas develops productions in which directing and composition evolve simultaneously. His work explores how sonic landscapes, visual rhythms, and theatrical space shape narrative and audience perception. Music becomes structure, sound creates space, and movement unfolds like a musical score.
<\/span>Alongside his artistic work, Claas creates interdisciplinary projects that connect professional theatre-making with cultural participation, often collaborating with young audiences and communities. This approach was recognised with the German National Award for Cultural Education (KULTURLICHTER Audience Award) for the interactive production <\/span>Field Trip in Space<\/span>.
<\/span>Claas studied Theatre Studies, Musicology, and Social Psychology at Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Vienna. After positions at the Staatstheater Meiningen, the Bayreuth Festival, and the Castillo Theatre in New York, he has worked as an independent artist since 2015, collaborating with theatres, orchestras, and cultural institutions across Germany.
